Eisuke Mochizuki 望月衛介
Eisuke Mochizuki is a pianist and composer from Tokyo. Since 2004 he has written a new piece on the day of every full moon, and today his gentle, romantic piano music reaches listeners around the world through social media and streaming. Around 250,000 people follow him online — about 97% of them outside Japan. His latest album is A Letter From An Angel (2025).
The story so far
Early career
Born in 1970, Eisuke began playing the piano at four and grew up absorbing music of every genre. He made his professional debut in 1990 with the album Waitin’ for You while still a student at Keio University, and that same year, as a member of the band B.B.Queens, won the Japan Record Award with the hit “Odoru Ponpokorin”.
Over the following decades he released a series of self-produced solo albums — among them SWEET SLOW LOVE (2003), his 20th-anniversary album REMINISCENCE ~Tsuioku~ (2010) and his tenth album PIANO ROMANCE (2012) — and gave his first overseas concert, in Melbourne, in 2012. He also led the unit bleur, whose single “Tinsagu nu Hana” (2001) spent six weeks on the J-WAVE TOKIO HOT 100.
Composer and producer
He has written songs for artists including ZARD and Hiromi Go, and composed music for film, TV and the stage, including the U.S. film Seamless (1999) and the Chinese film Parents (2016), which won Best Director at the Naples Film Festival. He has also produced other artists, most notably the violinist Ayako Ishikawa since 2012.
Music for good
In 2010 he founded the nonprofit Donation Music, creating music for charitable campaigns including AC Japan’s campaign supporting Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders). All proceeds from “PRAY FOR JAPAN”, which he wrote after the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, are donated to the Hatachi Fund.
A piece for every full moon
Since 2004 he has written a new piece on every full moon without missing one — a lifelong practice collected in his “Full Moon” series, including Mangetsu ~Fuyu~ (2005) and Mangetsu ~Aki~ (2021).
A global audience
In 2022 he stepped away from concerts and began sharing performance videos on social media, where his audience grew rapidly across Asia, North America, South America and Europe. In October 2025 he released A Letter From An Angel, with newly arranged and re-recorded versions of the ten originals his followers played most. The title track has been used in more than 200,000 videos on TikTok, and the cover is a painting by Eisuke himself.
